This was supposed to be the happiest time of your life BUT...
You may feel sad, depressed, anxious, empty, or even angry and resentful, but you can't explain why or seem to shake these feelings no matter what you do;
You may feel afraid to tell anyone how bad you are feeling;
You may feel guilty, ashamed, and worried;
You feel isolated and alone;
You may fear that you will never get better or be a good mother.
this baby (or babies) may feel difficult to bond with, because you feel flat or detached from him or her;
OR, you feel terrified at the thought of being away from your baby and fear something dreadful might happen!?!?
Maybe you have even stopped being able to go out or panic when you do. Maybe you are having difficulty sleeping even when other caregivers offer you the chance;
Maybe you are having scary thoughts and you fear telling others what you are thinking and feeling...You might even be thinking of harming yourself or your baby; which terrifies you even more. If this is the case, you are in crisis and need immediate care for these symptoms!!! Please see the statement at the bottom of this page.
You may feel as though something isn't right!?!? You don't even feel like yourself anymore! Maybe you can't eat or sleep or you want to eat or sleep too much. Whatever it is, you know you don't feel like yourself and it worries or scares you.
Few moms know that 1 in 7 women will be affected by a perinatal mood disorder (commonly known as postpartum depression) during or following their pregnancy (the perinatal period). Perinatal mood disorders and postpartum depression symptoms have a wide range of signs and symptoms which may include any or all of the following: depression, anxiety, having scary or intrusive thoughts, physical symptoms, and more. Although you may feel alone, perinatal mood disorders are the number one complication from pregnancy and are treatable by a properly trained mental health professional and/or medical provider. I offer assistance in my Hollywood office located just minutes from Aventura. After the initial assessment, we can even meet through a secure and private videochat.
There are many treatment options for moms who are affected by postpartum depression and anxiety. I invite you to take advantage of the 20 minute, free phone consultation (simply book at the top of this screen) to determine what help with postpartum depression and anxiety may look like for you and to find out about screening, assessment, and available treatment options. As a maternal mental health professional, I am specifically trained to assess and treat symptoms affiliated with perinatal mood disorders. You may come in for an assessment and appointment on your own, or you may bring in a family member or your partner as part of the process. You can even bring your baby!
In some cases, a house call can be arranged if your anxiety prevents you from leaving your house, you are still healing from your delivery, or you have a premature infant or multiples. Some restrictions apply and are dependent to the proximity to Hollywood and Aventura area.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW WHEN CHOOSING A THERAPIST TO TREAT YOUR POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION & ANXIETY
Not all therapists and counselors have received proper training in counseling mothers through the postpartum period. Because of the complex nature of postpartum depression and anxiety, it is important that the professional you choose has been trained through Postpartum Support International or Moms2020, known as the gold standard in maternal mental health training. Finding the right therapist can make all the difference in the length and effectiveness of your recovery process.
